It was right for Bresson to be a Catholic, and almost more right for some horrible rumor to arise that he was a "Christian atheist," not at all in the tradition of Weil, but as a cliché standard as in Pasolini. I had a quip alongside another one I forgot, that Bresson's experience as a lay Catholic is noted by his use of the word "evolve" in later interviews.
You can see his interaction with his actors best in the Cannes clip, despite suggestions he was aloof.
